Onerahi Groups

Waimahanga Track Action Group (WTAG) - Pest Animals

The Waimahanga Track Action Group – Pest Control is a volunteer-led team working to reduce predators along the Waimahanga Track. Through bait stations and monitoring, we protect native wildlife and support broader restoration efforts in Onerahi and surrounding reserves.

Waimahanga Track Action Group (WTAG) - Pest Plants

The Waimahanga Track Action Group meets monthly to care for the northern end of Waimahanga Track below George Point Road. They maintain trap stations, manage weeds, and welcome new helpers dedicated to protecting this shared coastal-mangrove environment.

Onerahi Coastline Action Group (OCLAG)

The Onerahi CoastLine Action Group (OCLAG) is a keen team who meet an hour a week, weeding and replanting natives in council reserves.

Onerahi Buffer Trappers

The FOMLI Onerahi foreshore group run a trapline around the headland facing Motu Matakohe/Limestone Island with the aim of protecting the motu from pest incursions while reducing pests on the mainland as a spin-off.

Friends of Matakohe Limestone Island (FOMLI)

Be part of Whangārei's only Island restoration project. FOMLI hosts regular volunteer days on the first Wednesday of every month, along with other one off volunteering events.

Te Kamo Groups

Pukenui Forest Trust

Support the care and protection of Pukenui Forest and the Western Hills. Volunteers help protect biodiversity, preserve cultural sites, maintain forest health, and enhance recreation for the wider Whangārei community. Always welcoming new helpers!

Pukenui RIPpers

The Pukenui RIPpers (RIP = Remove Invasive Plants) are an offshoot of the Pukenui Forest Trust. This group focusses on the removal of invasive weeds from the Pukenui Forest, wild ginger in particular.

Fairway Drive Pest Control

Fairway Drive Pest Control is a small group focused on removing pest animals and plants from the Magnolia Avenue Bush Reserve and Granfield Place Reserve.
