Welcome to Tiakina Kerikeri
Tiakina Kerikeri is a newly formed project, inspired by the success of Tiakina Whangārei, focused on tackling pests in urban Kerikeri. At its heart is community action—empowering locals with the tools, knowledge, and support to protect their environment and make a lasting impact together.
Te Taitokerau’s mid-north area already has many environmentally passionate groups working outside the urban area doing amazing mahi to restore native habitat and protect our birdlife. Tiakina Kerikeri builds on this momentum by encouraging backyard trapping, supporting community groups to work in urban reserves, and inspiring future conservationists through education and engagement.
Led by the community, for the community—Tiakina Kerikeri is here to help, whether you’re trapping, learning, or just getting started. Together we can achieve meaningful environmental outcomes. So, come on—get involved with Tiakina Kerikeri today!

Why Kerikeri?
Kerikeri is a special town rich with history and surrounded by the true natural beauty of the Wairoa Stream and the Waipekakoura River. As the second-largest urban population in Northland after Whangārei, Kerikeri is uniquely positioned to become a flagship for urban conservation in the region.
The community here is already leading the way — with passionate groups restoring waterways, protecting kiwi, and clearing trap lines. Tiakina Kerikeri will build on this strong foundation, working alongside locals to support, connect, and amplify existing efforts. Together, we’ll create a thriving, conservation-focused community where nature and people flourish side by side.
Kerikeri sits within the Mid North High Value Area, an area identified by the public as critical for conservation. Yet, despite its ecological importance, urban conservation resources have been limited. Tiakina Kerikeri aims to change that — bringing new energy, tools, and support to ensure nature thrives once again in our town.
With its vibrant community, stunning natural assets, and proven conservation leadership, Kerikeri is the next logical step for Tiakina. Let’s grow something extraordinary — together.
