Privacy Policy

Purpose

The purpose of this privacy policy is to let users of tiakinatetaitokerau.nz (“site”) know how and when Northland Regional Council (“we” or “us”) collects personal information, what we do with it and your right to request to see or change that information. The personal information that is collected on this site will be held and protected by Northland Regional Council in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020.

What personal information we collect

We collect personal information (such as your name, address, email address and contact phone numbers) that you provide when you engage with us either through the site or elsewhere. Subject to the obligations in the Privacy Act 2020 we may also collect personal information about you from third parties (such as other councils or government agencies) where this is necessary for us to deliver services.  We may also keep a record of any information that you obtain from us.

We may also collect statistical information to assist us to improve the site. This information is aggregated and does not identify you personally.  It includes:

  • your IP address
  • the pages you visited on our site and the links you clicked on
  • the date and time you visited the site
  • the referring site (if any) from which you clicked through to this site
  • your operating system, for example, Windows XP, Mac OS X
  • the type of web browser you use, such as Internet Explorer, Chrome or Mozilla Firefox
  • other things like your screen resolution and the language setting of your browser

This site generates persistent session cookies (that is, they have an expiry date and are removed on that date) to monitor site usage. The cookies don’t collect personal information. You can disable them or clear them out of your web browser without affecting your ability to use the site.

Why do we collect personal information

We collect personal information so that we can contact you and provide services to you in relation to this site and our functions and services.  We also collect information to review and improve the site functionality and services.

Besides our staff we may share this information with other councils and government agencies in order to provide our services and functions both generally and in relation to this site.

Managing your personal information

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to request access and ask us to correct any of your personal information provided to us in connection with your use of this site.
